Construction of the new Resource Recovery Facility is under way!
On May 14, 2008, we began construction of the new facility.
The goal of the project is to increase recycling for our South Lake Tahoe communities
by adding a new facility dedicated to organic waste and new green waste collection
routes for our residential customers. The efficiency of our Materials Recovery Facility
will also improve, allowing for additional separation and storage of other recyclable
materials. Recovered organic materials will be utilized for local revegetation projects,
sent to regional composting facilities in Douglas County, Nevada and may eventually
be utilized for energy generation projects as these technologies evolve.
This facility brings vast improvements to both material handling and traffic conditions
in and around our existing facility.
Please view our brief video for a narrative of the project, or you may view the
photo slide show of the project in progress.
