Commercial Yard  Waste

Thank you for helping to keep organic waste away from the landfill!

Requirements

Certain businesses and multifamily residential properties in California are required to separate organic waste from the regular garbage. Yard waste (i.e. pine needles, pine cones, grass clippings, flowers, branches, etc.) is chipped at the South Tahoe Refuse Resource Recovery Facility and sent to be composted at Full Circle Compost and Bentley Ranch in the Carson Valley.

You are required to participate in the yard waste recycling program if one of the following apply to your business:

  1. Your business generates two or more cubic yards of solid waste AND 20 gallons of yard waste every week
  2. Your business generates less than two cubic yards of solid waste AND 10 gallons of yard waste every week

The current options for yard waste recycling are as follows:

  1. Contracting with a landscaper to self-haul yard waste to the STR Resource Recovery Facility (RRF) at 2121 Eloise Ave.
  2. Self-hauling yard waste to the RRF by a direct employee or owner of the business
  3. Rent a temporary yard waste dumpster for seasonal cleanups

If Options 1 or 2 apply to your property operations, you are required to fill out a SB 1383 waiver and send it back to STR.
