Construction & Demolition
Construction & Demolition Material
South Tahoe Refuse offers Construction & Demolition (C&D) debris boxes through our partner, Tahoe Basin Container Services. In addition, we accept C&D drop-off at our Transfer Station. Please contact us at 530-542-8338 if you are planning large scale demolition projects so we can ensure we have the capacity to accept your material.
We strongly encourage separating material to ensure maximum capture of recyclables. We recycle wood, metal, dirt and inerts such as concrete and asphalt. By participating in recycling efforts, customers can simplify job-site cleanup, support local sustainability goals, and ensure compliance with requirements—making it an easy, cost-effective way to build smarter and greener in the South Shore community.
Need to meet CALGreen requirements?
The California Green Building StandardsCode (CALGreen) mandates new residential and non-residential construction, demolition, and certain additions and alterations projects to recycle and/orsalvage for reuse a minimum of 65% of the non-hazardous construction and demolition (C&D) debris generated during the project. The requirements must be met in order to obtain a building permit.
If the building department has instructed you to comply, and you choose to use South Tahoe Refuse as your waste management company, there are steps you need to take to ensure your project meets the requirements.
How to comply?
If you SELF-HAUL to our Transfer Station:
Source-separated wood, metal, dirt, concrete and asphalt is credited with a 100% recycling rate. You can also bring in mixed debris and we will separate it by material type and provide you with an overall recycling rate. The overall rate is consistently over 65%, so we can guarantee your project will comply.
Option 1 (Preferred)
Set up a Transfer Station account specifically for your project location. When your project is complete, request yourCALGreen report from our staff.
Option 2
If you don’t have a project-specific account, keep every transaction receipt, write the project address on them. When your project is complete, bring STR staff your receipts and request yourCALGreen report.
Please note there is a $25 administrative fee for all CALGreen reports.
If you choose DROP-BOX SERVICE:
When you establish the account with our office, be sure to note that the project has CALGreen requirements.
When the project is complete, request a report from our staff.
Note: We require at least 2 days advance notice to prepare reports.
