The Results Are In! Year One of the 3-Cart System
STR switched to a 3-cart collection system in October 2024, and after one year of the new system, we’re excited to share that we saw great improvements in both recycling and composting volumes.
Over the 12-month period, we sent 34% more material to be recycled and collected 480% more yard waste for composting compared to the previous year.
Thank you to all our customers that jumped on board with the new system and helped make the program a success!

Carts Must Be at Roadside for Collection
Please note that all carts must be presented at roadside by 7:00am for collection as indicated in your Service Guide. Carts left beside the bear box will not be checked/serviced.

Winter Service Reminders
- When you clear your driveway, be sure to dig out a spot for your carts. If you have a snow removal service, provide instructions to them.
- Customers must remove snow and ice from in front of bear boxes to allow doors to swing freely and fully.
- Place trash and recycling carts for collection at the edge of the property line so that they are not in the path of the plow. STR staff will return your carts back on your property after emptying.
- If the plow leaves a berm after you place carts out for collection, our crews will do the best they can to access and empty them. Please do the best you can to keep the area clear.
- If we are significantly delayed or cannot reach certain neighborhoods due to snow or road conditions, we will send out service alerts through the STR app (see QR code on page 1).
- Our collection department picks up on all holidays. Don’t forget to have your trash and recycling out by 7:00am on your collection day.
- Yard waste collection is suspended in the winter months based on snow conditions. We are scheduled to resume yard waste collection in April. Yard waste drop-off is always available at no cost.
What Happens to your Trash & Recycling? Local Students Learn First-Hand
Fall is school tour season for STR! In October and November 2025, we led 521 local students through tours of the Recycle Buy-Back Center and Transfer Station. Students from Meyers to Zephyr Cove learned all about how garbage, recycling, yard waste, and food waste are collected and processed in our community and sent to compost and recycling facilities. Big thanks to our school districts and home school partners for helping facilitate these learning opportunities for local youth!
